This scene, captured by one of the Green Southerners' volunteers in southern Lebanon during the summer of 2016, features a pack of five golden jackals. It stands out as one of the most striking portrayals of Lebanese wildlife in recent years, and is likely among the rarest images to document such a number of these carnivores together in a single pack — a sight we’ve called “The Golden Pack.”
It reflects the richness and vitality of Lebanon’s wilderness, despite the lack of sustainable protection policies and mounting pressures, most notably the ongoing aggression of the occupation. It also underscores the resilience and regenerative capacity of Lebanon’s wild ecosystems when given the opportunity, a core pillar of any truly sustainable development.
